Stock up on produce this weekend as we won’t have produce the following one

The Bungendore Southern Harvest Farmers Market is back this weekend at the Anglican Church Hall on Butmaroo Street (near the Caltex). We’ll be there from 9am to 12noon on Saturday and will also have the on-farm Shop open Sunday 11-4pm.

We’ll have beef, mutton and pork available (sorry, no chicken until August). Plus a good range of winter veggies. We’ll be serving pulled-pork wraps in conjunction with Scrumpers Garden, so get on down and support your local market.

Our favourite recipes this week include: Massaman Beef Curry, Meatballs in Rich Tomato Sauce and Pulled Pork – we even have some of these available as take-home meals. Of course we’ll also have a range of roasting peices of pork, beef and mutton, and check out the veggies we have available below to go with them πŸ™‚ Yum!

On the farm

Wow, talk about rain, the garden is still about a foot under water in the inter-rows, but the veggies are popping out of the ground so we’ve had to harvest anyway.

Winter Getaway
We took the opportunity, with 3 interns on the farm, to get away for a few weeks and head north to the warmth. We did discover warmth, but also mosquitoes and suffice to say the rest of NSW is as wet if not wetter than here – saying that everything looks lovely and green.

We visited our friends at Milking Yard Farm who also grow Sommerlad Chickens, quickly dropped in on Tammi and Stuart at Jonai Farms and then headed to Savannah Farm in the Clare Valley for a few days. It is really great to see what other farmers are doing on the sustainable farming topic.

As if that wasn’t enough, we’re away next weekend as well at a gathering for agrarians which happens each winter – a great chance to catch up with other farmers and learn from each other. This means we won’t have produce available next weekend, so stock up this Saturday or Sunday.

Community Buying Group
Our time away allows us to do lots of thinking and planning (no, we don’t really holiday, just get away πŸ˜‰ – We’re aiming to do Community Buying Group orders for collection at the Bungendore Farmers Market, Southside Markets in Canberra, SAGE Farmers Market in Moruya and through a Hub in North Canberra. These would be monthly deliveries. More information coming soon once we get a chance to put it online.Β  If you are keen to know more register to be involved.
Commercial Kitchen
We are making progress on the Commercial Kitchen front with some quotes now for a mobile version which we hope we can raise funds for and involve the surrounding food community – stay tuned…

See you at the Southern Harvest Farmers Market in Bungendore this Saturday or at the On-Farm Shop Sunday.
