Our next Open Day is Sunday 1 May 2016
Caroola Farm is a family-owned, permaculture-based, beyond organic, local-market farm and informational outreach in the NSW Southern Tablelands. Established in 2012 with the intention to be a permaculture demonstration farm and working, profitable farm to service the local community. It is operated by Penny Kothe and Paul McKinnon.
We provide healthy and nutritious, locally produced and organically grown produce in small amounts from our integrated, holistically managed farm:
Herbs and Vegetables – seasonally including carrots, potatoes, salad mixes, beetroot, rhubarb and more. We have a range of herbs including thyme, basil, oregano, mint and coriander.
Fruit and nuts – seasonally including apples, blackberries and raspberries (nuts are further down the track in terms of production)
Poultry and Eggs – free range (Humane Choice Certified) Pekin Ducks for meat and the famous Sommerlad Heritage Chickens. We grow Turkeys seasonally for Christmas.
Beef, Pork and Lamb – free range and organically grown on pasture our beef and lamb are available in packaged cuts or as a whole or half side order.
Our aim is to heal the land, regenerating it and leaving it in a better place than we first found it, and to produce nutritious and environmentally friendly local food by setting up a range of complimentary enterprises. We are involved locally in permaculture, organic production and holistic management communities.
The farm is, and will always be, a work in progress. Since we just started out in 2012, there is more to do than there will be 5 years down the track, but in another 5 years, we’ll just find more that we want to do, so we’ll never be finished! Suffice to say, each day we make progress!
A bushfire in January 2013 provided us with major challenges, we lost all pasture and fences and have been working hard to rebuild from there. We have established forest gardens, kitchen gardens, a free range poultry system and more…
10.30am and 2.00pm – allow 1 and a half hours. Tours will still proceed in wet weather (you’ll just need to come prepared)
